Introduction
My name is Jennifer Burke, and I have completed the Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) program in Instructional Technology at Kennesaw State University, graduating August 2014. I graduated from Auburn University in 1980 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. I come to my career in education from a different path. I joined the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) as an administrative assistant managing their reference library, which led to my completing my Masters of Science in Library Service at Clark Atlanta University in 1994. During my 14 years at SREB I was made a research assistant and later program coordinator writing about instructional technology. This work inspired me to leave SREB and join the faculty of Centennial Place Elementary School in 2002.
I am currently the library media specialist at Centennial Academy in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. KSU's reputation in instructional technology led me to the Education Specialist Degree program in the Department of Instructional Technology. Although I plan to remain a media specialist, completing this degree will make me better able to support my teaching colleagues and students as our school transitions from a traditional K-5 elementary school to a K-8 charter school.
The purpose of this portfolio is to demonstrate mastery of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission's Instructional Technology standards and the ISTE NETS-C standards. As you can see, there are a series of tabs at the top of this page, under the KSU logo, that you can visit. Of particular importance is the "standards" link. Under this link, you will find a series of artifacts and reflections documenting the important work I have completed during this program. Each artifact represents mastery of the standard under which it is represented.
I feel that my experience at Kennesaw State University has prepared me to integrate technology into my classroom, manage and plan for technology resources, and to assist other educators through providing professional learning opportunities.
